Romneycare is bankrupting Massachusetts – Obamacare will bankrupt the country - Obama healthcare signature - Official White House Photo by Chuck Kennedyat Flickr.com
One of big benefits to Romneycare (Massachusetts government run healthcare) and Obamacare is that their supposed to cover everyone and do it at a significantly reduced cost all could afford. The government run healthcare of Massachusetts is not only a petri dish experiment showing this not to be the case, but that the exact opposite effect takes place.
The Massachusetts government designed the system to have the businesses carry the burden of costs for healthcare, but smaller businesses which make up the majority of employers simply can’t afford the costs of government run healthcare. As a result small businesses in Massachusetts are terminating their insurance plans for employees and instead depending on the state run healthcare system (Commonwealth Care) to take care of their employees.
For small businesses dropping employees from their heathcare roles has become a necessity due to high costs and an economy that is hitting their bottom lines hard. Sending employees to government run healthcare can mean the difference between closing their businesses or laying off employees just to stay afloat.
These businesses don’t get off Scott free though. The state government penalizes the business for doing this, but the cost in Massachusetts is only $295 annually per employee which is far less than if the companies continued to pay the insurance premiums. For example the Early Learning Child Care center in New Bedford is now paying fines of $1,500 quarterly to the state government instead of the $30,000 it had been paying out quarterly for just 13 employees’ healthcare costs. Those costs are now taken on by Massachusetts taxpayers.
If nothing changes Obamacare will have the bulk of its federal healthcare rules take effect nationwide. But unlike Massachusetts where an employer’s can be fined if they have more than 11 full-time employees Obamacare only penalizes small businesses if they have 50 or more employees.
As noted previously the state of Massachusetts (ie the taxpayers)had to pick up the tab of $30k ‘quarterly’ for just 13 employees from a single small business while taking in just $1.5k quarterly from fines the state charged this one business which is an annual loss of $114,000 to the state. Now think millions of small businesses across the country when Obamacare comes online with 49 or less employees all going on the government dole with zero cost to the business.
Then even if a business has more than 49 employees, do you think they will pay the high cost of health insurance for each employee or do you think they’ll pay the nominal penalty instead and dump even more people onto the government run healthcare system?
Romneycare in Massachusetts has proven that not only does government run healthcare not work it has crippled the state’s economy. And Massachusetts, often referred to as Taxachusetts is one of the heavies taxed states in the country so raising taxes even more to cover these costs is not really an option for them, but it undoubtedly won’t stop the liberal policy makers there from trying anyway. After all these government bureaucrats aren’t on the same healthcare system the rest of the ‘little’ people are on. They get the bet coverage available at the expense of the taxpayer.
Expect the same from Obamacare, but multiply that by at least a hundred fold. Like Europe, government run healthcare will cause a very high percentage of doctors to retire early and with fewer doctors and much higher costs rationed healthcare will be implemented. The tax rate of the country will need to skyrocket just like it has in all the other socialized healthcare system around the world and simply procedures like an MRI that in the U.S. today can be scheduled for the next day could take months if not longer and results that could have been detected early enough to make a difference could now lead to loss of life.
But then again like so many other government run programs, like social security Obamacare only applies to the common man and woman, not politicians who notably made sure that Obamacare did not apply to them and their families.
